Last Updated a year ago

Here's how to enable two-factor authentication (2FA) on your Gmail (Google Workspace) account and use 1Password as the authentication app:
Before starting verify that your 1password entry for Gmail is correct, see image below.

1. Go to the Authenticator App setup at the following here.

6. Make sure the QR code from google is visible on the screen from step 2. Drag the window "1password code scanner" over the QR code for it to be captured.

7. Click "Next" below the provided QR code, 1password will have placed a 6 digit code in the clipboard. Paste this code into the field on the web page as shown below. DO NOT use the code from the image below, it is an example only. Once the code is pasted click "Verify" at the bottom of the page.

8. IF everything worked properly you should see the following page or something similar. Click on the blue button "Turn on" to enable 2FA for your account.

Final:
When logging into your google account the 1password entry now has a field one-time-password. The code is 6 digits long and expires every 30 seconds, there is a count down clock on the right side indicating how long it will be valid for. Once it is no longer valid a new code is generated, if you are about to click on the code to copy it with it near expiration it might not work.

It is best to let it regenerate and click on it as soon as a new code is generated.
